Difficulties, obstacles and challenges are not simply things we should try to avoid. On a deeper, spiritual level, they are often part of the process of growth – teaching us patience, resilience and courage, and helping us discover strengths we may not even have known we possessed. It is through overcoming difficulties that character is gradually built and strengthened.
Here, too, the example set by adults is extremely important. If children see that we do not run away from difficulties, give up or blame the world, but instead look for solutions, try again and keep moving forward, they are likely to develop the same approach. In this way, they gradually learn that obstacles are not the end of the road, but part of the journey – and that we can emerge from them stronger, wiser and more confident.
